Parents' Nook

Hello Homeschooling parents! We are Parents' Nook, a community that aims to connect with mothers and parents who have young children. Our community is designed for parents who are seeking coworking, socializing, or adult interaction while their little ones are taken care of by facilitators from neighboring communities. We create play spaces that are intentionally curated by our play team. We recently launched Nook, which caters to the needs of parents with young children. We are working to spread the word about it and invite interested parents to join us.

How we can help unschooling/homeschooling parents:
Our experiments with unschooling/homeschooling parents have shown that the Nook set up helps them to work/socialize or have time to themselves while their children engage in open-ended play under the observation of play facilitators. By open-ended play, we mean play where children are free to experiment with materials, be curious, and have fun. Our pedagogy is inspired by Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, and the concept of loose play materials.

Our goal is to establish micro-communities within neighborhoods that provide a safe and relaxing environment for mothers/parents. We hope this new way of care will help support the parent, children, and caregivers alike.

We offer a combination of parent care and child care, creating spaces where parents can co-work, socialize, or explore the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) while their children engage in open-ended play, supervised by trusted facilitators from the local community. Our flagship location is at the OMCA every Friday from 1 pm onwards (1 pm-5 pm).
