Houzn Jiu Jitsu Academy

Houzn Jiu Jitsu Academy offers instruction in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Classes are taught by experienced instructors and are oriented to helping students get in good physical shape, learn self-defense, and become technically proficient. Students work on honing their gross motor skills including coordination, balance, endurance, leverage, and strength as they develop self-defense techniques.

A typical class begins with a calisthenic warm up, then moves on to a variety of technical exercises and mobility drills. These are followed by in-depth work on a specific technique or series of techniques, and then class usually closes with time for free practice and/or sparring.

Classes at Houzn are also focused on building character, discipline, resilience, confidence, respect, and patience. Students are expected to focus, follow instructions, and take responsibility for their own actions. Most group activities are structured to help them become accountable, approach challenges with a positive attitude, express their opinions respectfully, and learn how to work with others to achieve a common goal. Classes are demanding, but they are also designed to be fun.
