Elementary music class that teaches foundations in music, singing fundamentals, working on steady beat, pitch, and rhythm; learn music from around the world, and reinforce musical concepts through a variety of games. Each quarter, students will learn a dance set to a classical piece of music. Every week, students will study a composer - learning about the composer through listening to their music, reading a story about the composer, and eating a cookie from their country of origin. Students connect the composer to a scientist, artist, author, local event, American event, and world history event from the composer's lifetime. Classes are 45 minutes, 11 weeks in the fall and 11 weeks in the Spring. There are classes for K-3rd graders and 4-6th graders.
Middle School Music Theater class (7th - 9th grade) - students learn two musicals a year. This year, students will be studying The Unsinkable Molly Brown in the fall semester and Titanic in the spring semester. Students will learn a variety of aspects of musicals - plot, characters, composers, actors, songs. Students complete song analysis of several songs from each musical. Students will complete several projects on developing a character. Students will also learn to sing and perform one song from each musical. Students will play a variety of theater games.
