The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading is a complete phonics program- very inexpensive, comprehensive, and so easy to use. Little to no parent preparation required. Lessons are scripted to make it even more simple if you wish. Once complete, your child will be reading on a fourth grade level. The program uses a no frills approach; however, it’s very easy to “jazz up” teaching basic letters and short vowel sounds. Once you move beyond that point in the program, it is very detailed and logical in its pure phonics approach.

This book is my absolute favorite! It has improved my daughter’s reading skills tremendously. I was able to get it on sale for $20, regular price is $30. You don’t need any other items except paper and markers/colored pencils. There are games to make and note cards. We made charts of all the poems. This book is super easy to teach and would help any child learn to read. This book is cost effective and so easy to use. I would recommend this book to any parent trying to teach their child to read.
