Charlotte Lyric Theatre Youth Academy

The Youth Academy is the youth training program of Charlotte Lyric Theatre, a Charlotte-based 501(c)(3) company founded by Maestro James Meena and dedicated to mentorship and career advancement for Greater Charlotte artists. The Academy exists to fill a specific gap in the region: while young people in Greater Charlotte have many opportunities to perform musical theatre and popular music, few organizations offer instruction in classical voice and classical musicianship. Students receive conservatory-style training in vocal technique, musicianship, and repertoire - a foundation that transfers across every style a young singer may later pursue.

The Academy serves students in two groups: Treble Voices for younger singers, and Lyric Singers, an auditioned ensemble for teens. Instruction is led by Lyric Artists Corey Lovelace and Zachary Hugo, and need-based scholarships are available so that cost is not a barrier to participation.
