The Suzuki Method was founded by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. He based his revolutionary teaching philosophy on how children of every country learn their homeland language, no matter how complicated it may be. He called it the Mother Tongue Method. Children learn their languages starting very young, at birth, really. They learn from their parents by repeating a word, and being rewarded when they say it correctly. Similarly, children can learn to play an instrument by modeling this Mother Tongue Method.

This, in essence, is the Suzuki Method. You as the parent attend and take notes during the lesson. At home, you conduct the practice based upon what you observed during the lesson and your notes on what the teacher assigned. The teacher, you, and your child make up the Suzuki Triangle. Don’t know how to play an instrument? Don’t worry! The teacher is there to not only teach your child, but also you along the way. You and your child will also receive a group class each week. Group classes are when children of the same playing level gather and work on ensemble, and review. Children learn a great deal from watching others and helping each other with the same issues they struggle with. Parents attend and participate as the teacher and student need them. It's a wonderful way to expand your parental support network and be a part of every step of your child’s learning experience. Your bonds will become even stronger through this shared experience of learning. Is your child older or already has a few years learning the cello or bass? The Suzuki Method can easily be molded around every child, and every learning style.
