Research shows that high-dosage tutoring can help students realize learning gains, build confidence and self-efficacy, and accelerate how they meet developmentally appropriate learning goals. The CadetNet Virtual Academy high-dosage tutoring program, offered by Chesapeake Bay Academy, offers the benefit of high-dosage tutoring in the context of special education.
Students and teachers will engage in small group (3-4 students) sessions two times a week for 30 minutes per session using both videoconferencing and desktop virtual reality (VR), to reinforce math, reading and writing related concepts.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, the program will be delivered to 48 middle school (grades 6-8) students at no cost between January 12, 2026 and June 5, 2026. It will include reading or math instruction, twice weekly, over 30-40 minute sessions. Students enrolled in public, private, and even homeschooled students will have access to the program. Those with a demonstrated learning need will be given priority in the application process.
