Since 1982 the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony has developed students from nearly 50 communities in its four orchestras. The mission of DMYS is to provide an advanced youth ensemble experience that is challenging and fun, stimulates musical development, and serves to supplement music education already in a student's life, whether private lessons, a school program, or both.
Young musicians attending in grades 2-13 come together for weekly Saturday morning rehearsals September through May at The Hawk (Farmington Hills), and perform three Sunday afternoon concerts each season at The Hawk and other venues across metropolitan Detroit.
Detroit MYS offers an opportunity to advance your skills to a new level with other interested and dedicated students. DMYS students often go on to focus on music in college and some of our students pursue other professions but are members of university and community orchestras and bands.
