Newport County Youth Chorus

The Newport County Youth Chorus is an after school choral music education program offered to students in grades 2 - 6. Students meet once a week for one hour to learn songs from different countries, in different languages, and in different styles. Through exploring each unique voice, the chorus grows as a unified team.

The mission of the NEWPORT COUNTY YOUTH CHORUS is to provide an exceptional choral music education program to the youth of the greater Newport/Aquidneck community, to provide teaching opportunities and mentorship to developing teachers from Salve Regina University and local high schools, and to create a community arts organization that serves and connects the many facets of the Newport county community.

Members of the NEWPORT COUNTY YOUTH CHORUS:

• Receive a high level music education, which includes vocal development that is appropriate to the singers’ age and ability and increased musicianship knowledge and understanding, all delivered in the context of a diverse music selection (genre, languages, cultures, time periods, religions).
• Are encouraged to thrive as a member of a team and as an individual whose unique contribution influences the outcome of our collective goals.
• Are led and mentored by positive adult role models including highly qualified music educators and professionals and students from Salve Regina University.
• Gather regularly to give back to the community by spreading joy through our music and offering service to our neighbors.
• Will be singers who represent different ethnicities, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. The most important requirements of a child’s participation in the program is a love of singing, the desire to work collaboratively, a commitment to attend weekly rehearsals and all performances, and the ability to match pitch.​
