Room for Music is a weekly class for young children, preschool to elementary school age. In the class we sing jazz and popular songs, and we use solfege (do-re-mi) to sing melodies of well-known classical pieces that we will be talking about. We learn the different instrument families (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion), and how they work together in the orchestra or jazz ensemble. We also learn how to read basic rhythms, and musical terms regarding dynamics and tempo, and do other fun music-related activities. Some of the songs my classes have sung are: "My Favorite Things," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "Yellow Submarine," and "Over the Rainbow," just to name a few. The class can also include group lessons on the recorder and ukulele.
