The most updated Home School information is posted on the Rapid City Area Schools Website www.rcas.org and is found under the Parents Tab, Student Registration, Enrollment & Transfers Tab, and then Homeschool.

During the 2021 Legislative session HB 177 revised the provisions of parental choice regarding compulsory school attendance contained in SDCL 13-27. On July 1, 2021 the revised law will go into effect.

In order to best facilitate the implementation of the revised law, a new, simplified online reporting system, which will be utilized collectively by parents/guardians, school districts and the Department of Education is currently being developed. The new system is scheduled to be completed and released, along with additional guidance regarding the providing of alternative instruction, after July 1, 2021.

Parents/guardians who currently provide alternative instruction pursuant to SDCL 13-27-3 are required to complete the online notification for Public School Exemption for the 21-22 school year, or within thirty days if new to alternative instruction.
