Explorers Creativity Club is an integrative enrichment program that utilizes Live Action Role Playing (LARPing) for kids 12-18. Subjects include Bible, history, PE, drama, creative writing, and more.
The program is a game where the participants create their own characters and act out a storyline set in the medieval fantasy land the coach created, which is similar to Lord of the Rings and Narnia.
The group meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday afternoons from 1:30-4:30 pm for classes. Homeschoolers and online schoolers are welcome. They make crafts, sword fight and get some sword fighting instructions, have a Bible devotional based on Scriptures about joy, if there is time they will play an acting game and do a skit, and then end by playing a Christian alternative to D&D called Advanced Narrative Roleplaying.
On the intervening Saturdays, the Explorers Creativity Club hosts a LARPing event when they act out their exciting storyline. All students in all schooling situations are welcome.
Their first class starts September 9 when they will make boffer swords. These swords are designed to be light weight and have a good, comfortable feel in the hand.
Each semester the group has a special event for members: in December they host a medieval feast and in May they host a knighing/awards ceremony.
Students can join the whole enrichment program or Saturdays only. Students can also attend individual classes and just pay for the materials fee. The option to observe is free and available. Students can also participate in the LARPing event for free as long as they use a Non Player Character. Like their Facebook page @explorerscreativityclub to find the events and classes to sign up individually.
While the main group focuses on 12-18 year olds, the group will host classes at least once a semester for children ages 7-11. That information can be found on the Facebook page.
