Carolina English Tutor—led by a Harvard University graduate and English major—offers 26 years of experience as an English teacher, test prep instructor and college placement counselor to homeschool students in North Carolina. Students from middle school into high school take weekly online classes in essay writing—both in critical analysis (some using MLA Documentation) and creative writing (poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction)—developing a portfolio to demonstrate mastery for competitions (Scholastic and YoungArts, here we come!), publication, and college admissions. Each year, select students win Scholastic's national Gold Medal in competition, and many win the regional Gold Key and Silver Key. Juniors and seniors take weekly SAT and/or ACT prep sessions online focusing on the verbal assessments—the SAT's Reading section, Writing section and Essay, and the ACT's English section, Reading section and Writing Assessment. Rising seniors brainstorm and write their Common Application essays and additional Supplement essays to prepare for their college applications. Rising to the challenge of Carolina English Tutor, students' mastery of written English in its many forms is the best reward.
