This resource is a volunteer opportunity is a Teen Court program in Craven County, North Carolina. This is a prime opportunity for students to volunteer and earn those hour credits they need for things like jobs and colleges. Having Teen Court on one’s college application works very well in the applicant’s favor. What the volunteers do, once they receive training, is take on the roles in a courtroom hearing, and the jury assigns sanctions to the young person who, having previously admitted guilt (the volunteers aren’t judges), and desires to do something to make up for his/her minor misdemeanor offense. This process serves to help prevent juveniles from entering the Juvenile Justice System. Volunteers may be in grades 6-12 and enrolled in a homeschool program.
