  1. Grapevine Studies Review by JulieCC
Pros: cost effective, esp. e-books; fun
    Cons: can be repetitive

Grades Used: middle school, levels 4 & 5

We’ve used Grapevine Studies to work chronologically through the Old Testament while doing our core curriculum and making a huge wall timeline. Grapevine Studies finished projects can be done in book format, or on the wall. They make lovely timelines, drawn by the student’s own hand.

We love the way we’re taught to draw through GS, and neither my son, nor I, are great at drawing. Anyone can stick figure!! We’re both visual learners, so the colors used in the lessons, and in the teacher’s guides, are visually pleasing to us.

The stick figuring can get a bit repetitive, but it’s still fun. The author uses certain symbols over and over to represent God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, prayer, sin, deliverance, etc. Students draw while the teacher reads the text of the lessons and the bible verses. The characters are drawn, and it’s chronological (for OT & NT). Books of the bible are shown on drawings along with the name of the event/person, and the figure drawn.

You can purchase just simple OT & NT overviews, or do the more in-depth studies. You can also choose individual biblical events or holidays to study: The Ressurection, Creation, Noah, etc. So you can use this as a core bible curriculum, or as a supplement. It works well with our chronological history/literature/bible curriculum.

The author, Diana Weibe, is also very helpful and gives great customer support and sale support to customers.
