[Update: Congratulations to Amanda (#29), the winner of Investigating God’s World. Amanda, please contact me with your mailing address by Friday, March 11.]
Today’s goodie up for grabs is Understanding God’s World from A Beka (grade 4). I have available the textbook, the unused test & quizzes booklet, and the tests and quizzes key. The materials are in good shape but the textbook does have some writing inside.
The tests and quizzes booklet and answer key have no writing except for a name inside the cover. I do not have the workbook that corresponds to the text.
From the publisher:
Fourth graders will enjoy this fascinating presentation of things that they can see, observe, and understand in the world around them. They learn how to make an insect zoo, how to recognize the plants they see every day, how to attract birds to their own back yards, how to use field guides, how to interpret cloud formations, and how to identify rocks. Students will appreciate the miracle of plant germination, the causes of weather, the God-given provisions for life on earth, the design of the starry heavens, the ecology of the ocean depths, and many other aspects of God’s creative genius. Demonstrations and activities throughout the text keep learning lively, comprehension checks and Chapter Checkups provide for thorough review.
This text is scheduled as a 27-week course, followed by Developing Good Health taught the last 9 weeks.
To see what other homeschoolers have to say about the program, visit the page for A Beka reviews by homeschoolers. To read more from the publisher, visit A Beka’s website.
Reminders: The items in Goodies Up For Grabs may be gently used or like new. While the item itself should be in good condition (I’m not guaranteeing it because I won’t be watching every video or listening to every CD), the covers may not be in great shape. As of this writing, items are all from my personal shelves but that may change if friends offer to contribute to the stash. I may not have actually used the item. (You don’t ever do that, do you? Buy curriculum and not use it? I didn’t think so.) Some of the resources may be older versions – I have several great videos but they are on VHS tapes – so be sure to pay attention to whether the format of a resource will work for you.
The rules are simple – for each item, just post in the comments section of the blog post what you like about that particular item. Please only post once for each item. If you don’t intend to respond with your address if you are the winner, out of fairness to the other homeschoolers who would love to have the item, please do not enter! The choice will be random, so it will not increase your chances of winning to tell how your husband just left you and your house burned down and you lost your job so you really *need* the item. Keep it simple, and happy homeschooling!
I am looking for a new science curriculum and would love to have a chance to use the A Beka books!
Yes, please.
I am interested in this book. My son is going into fourth grade and we have yet to find a science curriculum that we are satisfied with. Thanks.
It sounds like one I would like to try. I am a scientist at heart and my kids love it too. Unlike many scientist (though certainly not all), I find science strengthens my faith rather than tears it down. One of the things I love about homeschooling is the freedom I have to express faith at the same time as science.
I entered this same comment on the 5th grade post, but I just happen to have both a 4th and a 5th grader.
I have never used Beka using paces but love anything to do with teaching GOD’S work
My youngest just loves nature. Thanks for the chance.
I will have a fourth grader next year. She loves science and I love Abeka.

We LOVE Abeka Science here. They are really the only text books that we use regularly. I would love to have the 4th grade book for my youngest daughter. We didn’t start using Abeka until my 3rd child was in the 5th grade.
Would love to have this one…or the 5th grade book (which I just commented on.)
I used this book when my now 9th grader was in the 4th and would love to use it for my 3rd grader next year.
