[Update: Congratulations to Jackie (#69) who won the Math-U-See! Jackie, please contact me with your mailing address by Monday, March 7, so I can mail your goodies.]
Today’s goodie up for grabs is Math-U-See Gamma. I have available the DVD, the Teacher Manual, and the unused Test Booklet. It does not include the Student Workbook or the blocks. The materials are in very good shape but they do have Kelley written inside the cover. We really enjoyed this program when used with the blocks; by building the problems instead of just writing numbers, the students are able to understand the concept rather than just memorize the procedure. The Gamma level covers single and double digit multiplication along with other topics. Math-U-See has placement tests available to help you determine the most appropriate level for your child.
From the publisher:
Math·U·See is broken down to teach students specific skills that build as the student progresses. This systematic and cumulative approach uses a definite, logical sequence of concept instruction. The Math·U·See system is structured with step-by-step procedures for introducing, reviewing, and practicing concepts.
- Math skills are taught explicitly
- There is a definite, logical sequence of concept instruction that is systematic and cumulative
- A structured, step-by-step procedure for introducing, reviewing, and practicing concepts
- Multi-sensory tools to engage the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic channels simultaneously in rapid succession
- Continuous, ongoing assessment and progress monitoring allow for frequent opportunities to re-teach
Reminders: The items in Goodies Up For Grabs may be gently used or like new. While the item itself should be in good condition (I’m not guaranteeing it because I won’t be watching every video or listening to every CD), the covers may not be in great shape. As of this writing, items are all from my personal shelves but that may change if friends offer to contribute to the stash. I may not have actually used the item. (You don’t ever do that, do you? Buy curriculum and not use it? I didn’t think so.) Some of the resources may be older versions – I have several great videos but they are on VHS tapes – so be sure to pay attention to whether the format of a resource will work for you.
The rules are simple – for each item, just post in the comments section of the blog post what you like about that particular item. Please only post once for each item. If you don’t intend to respond with your address if you are the winner, out of fairness to the other homeschoolers who would love to have the item, please do not enter! The choice will be random, so it will not increase your chances of winning to tell how your husband just left you and your house burned down and you lost your job so you really *need* the item. Keep it simple, and happy homeschooling!
