Goodies: Math-U-See Gamma

[Update: Congratulations to Jackie (#69) who won the Math-U-See! Jackie, please contact me with your mailing address by Monday, March 7, so I can mail your goodies.]

Looking for a curriculum your kids will like?
An online homeschool curriculum can open new doors by creating an interactive learning experience that brings concepts to life.
Text Time4Learning and rotating graphics for math, science, social studies, and language arts
Homeschooling should be fun.
With Time4Learning, it can be!

Today’s goodie up for grabs is Math-U-See Gamma. I have available the DVD, the Teacher Manual, and the unused Test Booklet. It does not include the Student Workbook or the blocks. The materials are in very good shape but they do have Kelley written inside the cover. We really enjoyed this program when used with the blocks; by building the problems instead of just writing numbers, the students are able to understand the concept rather than just memorize the procedure. The Gamma level covers single and double digit multiplication along with other topics. Math-U-See has placement tests available to help you determine the most appropriate level for your child.

From the publisher:

Math·U·See is broken down to teach students specific skills that build as the student progresses. This systematic and cumulative approach uses a definite, logical sequence of concept instruction. The Math·U·See system is structured with step-by-step procedures for introducing, reviewing, and practicing concepts.

  1. Math skills are taught explicitly
  2. There is a definite, logical sequence of concept instruction that is systematic and cumulative
  3. A structured, step-by-step procedure for introducing, reviewing, and practicing concepts
  4. Multi-sensory tools to engage the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic channels simultaneously in rapid succession
  5. Continuous, ongoing assessment and progress monitoring allow for frequent opportunities to re-teach

To see what other homeschoolers have to say about the program, visit the page for Math-U-See reviews by homeschoolers. To read more from the publisher, visit Math-U-See’s website.

Reminders: The items in Goodies Up For Grabs may be gently used or like new. While the item itself should be in good condition (I’m not guaranteeing it because I won’t be watching every video or listening to every CD), the covers may not be in great shape. As of this writing, items are all from my personal shelves but that may change if friends offer to contribute to the stash. I may not have actually used the item. (You don’t ever do that, do you? Buy curriculum and not use it? I didn’t think so.) Some of the resources may be older versions – I have several great videos but they are on VHS tapes – so be sure to pay attention to whether the format of a resource will work for you.

The rules are simple – for each item, just post in the comments section of the blog post what you like about that particular item. Please only post once for each item. If you don’t intend to respond with your address if you are the winner, out of fairness to the other homeschoolers who would love to have the item, please do not enter! The choice will be random, so it will not increase your chances of winning to tell how your husband just left you and your house burned down and you lost your job so you really *need* the item. Keep it simple, and happy homeschooling!

My 8 year old loves the blocks. So I am thinking of using them with her.

  76. Nicole

We just ordered Alpha for my youngest. It’s not here yet but we are very excited. I do mean WE. The Gamma level would be for my oldest. She is not fond of our current math curriculum (I say that in an ever-so-casual manner). Soooo…. we need to come on up out of this one and into Gamma!!!! This is a huge blessing you are offering. Thank you!

  80. TJ

We’ve been using Math U See for 2 years now, and we really like it’s approach. My daughter especially likes using the DVD to have Mr. Demme explain her lesson to her. He does a good job, and it gives her someone else to listen to.

  81. I would love to win this because I know a family that wants it, and I would love to bless them.

  82. Melody Lange

I love how hands on Math-U-See is. My youngest definately needs that when learning math concepts.

  83. Our current math curriculum is fairly dry. Would love this to give us something new to try.

  84. Lori

I love MUS! When I pulled our ds out of public school, he was very lost when it came to math. The schools did a spiral curriculum that didn’t work for ds. He couldn’t understand the connections between all the things he was learning. so we stared MUS and now he gets it!! I love that my son knows what he is learning now will be needed for the next level! Plus, the manipulatives are great! love MUS!

  85. Nancy R

I hadn’t heard of Math U See until the past year. I am excited about a program that helps children learn Math in a different way. I have never heard anything bad about Math U See and would love to try it out!

  86. Linda S

I have many friends who LOVE Math-U-See! Seems like a fantastic program!

  87. Lori

    We love Math-U-See!! 22, come on, 22!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Lori

We started with Primer, and are in Beta now. Math-U-See is a fantastic way for kids to touch and feel their math. It’s not just a concept anymore!!!

  88. Kimberly Adler

Anything that can make teaching math more interesting!

  89. Bernice

This is the next book for us so would love a chance to win it.

  90. Would love this! My kids are only on Alpha right now but I am so psyched about MUS already and this would be wonderful to save on future purchases, since MUS costs an arm and a leg new 🙂

  91. Juli Al-Amin

I have heard so many good things about this program…I would love to have this!

  92. Tricia

I would love to use Math-U-See with my daughter! A friend of mine suggested I try it as other curriculums haven’t quite clicked with her. She is very much a hands-on learner.

  93. The littles are very hands-on and visual learners. This would be a great asset.

  96. catherine

We would really like to have this!

  97. Jenny Mosley

I love how it comes with the placement test since I am new to homeschooling. Also, my daughter could really learn from the DVD since she is more of a visual learner being autistic.

  98. We’ve been using MUS for a year now and my DD loves it. Math is her favorite subject.

  99. Lisa

Several of my homeschooling cousins use this and love it. We would love to use it ourselves!

We love MUS! My daughter will be in 2nd grade next year & ready to use this level. Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  104. Saw this at a homeschool fair once. I like the block concept. I think my kiddos would like it.

  105. This would be a wonderful addition to my homeschooling resources! I love trying new things.

  106. amber

New to homeschooling. A friend told me about this curriculum. Interested to see how it works

  107. This would help me with homeschooling my children 🙂

  108. I would love this item as I was fortunate enough to pick up the manipulatives at a used curriculum fair but do not have the books to support the use of them. My youngest son struggles with multiplication so much this would be a great asset
