Easter marks the physical end of winter, as spring bursts forth with color and life from the ground.
Yet for Christians, it also means the end of death, as believers celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the cross. This wonderful season of renewal is a great time to breathe new life into your homeschool, and get creative with your kids!
While dyeing Easter eggs is a staple tradition for many families, there are some wonderful crafts that can make the holiday fun and memorable. Check out these suggestions for this year:
- Paper bead cross necklace – This project for older children involves making their own beads from paper and then stringing them in the form of a cross to wear as jewelry.
- Flowered Easter bonnet – When the spring dresses come out at Easter, why not be ready with your own Easter bonnet that you made yourself? Kids can not only create but wear this special craft!
- Jeweled Easter eggs – Some boiled eggs, glitter paint, and jewels make this an easy craft for children. These can also make great give-away gifts or Easter-themed décor for the house!
- Eggshell mosaics – Next time you cook, don’t throw away those eggshells! Instead, recycle them for this fun craft. Simply soak eggshells in food coloring, break them into pieces, and glue onto pictures of the child’s choice.
- Eggshell tulips – Easter is the time for tulips, and with this craft, kids can make their own! Uses eggshells, paint, and pipe cleaners.
- Easter handprint lily – Your child’s handprint, along with a pipe cleaner and some construction paper can make a beautiful keepsake item. Includes “My Handprint Lily” poem, and the tradition of Easter lilies to include on the back of the project.
- Easter learning fun craft – Not only can children have fun making this Easter basket and eggs, but it comes with a list of learning activities! Click on the link and scroll almost halfway down the page.
- Angel rolled away stone craft – Kids make Christ’s tomb from a paper plate and then roll away the stone to reveal an angel inside. Great craft for preschoolers.
- Easter basket – Older children will enjoy making their own Easter baskets out of cloth strips and rope.
- Resurrection eggs – This is a wonderful way to tell the Easter story for children. Kids put symbols from the Easter story into eggs, along with a verse that explains each symbol. Watch a video of resurrection eggs being used (and find additional scripture passages and symbols) at teachkidsthebible.com.
- Easter cross wreath – A few toilet paper rolls, a wire coat hanger, and some paint become a special Easter wreath with this cute project.
Two great options for very young kids are "Slow and Steady Get Me Ready" (basically a great preschool curriculum broken down into daily fun activities), and "Before Five in a Row" (fun learning activities based around literature for children). Both curricula are fairly inexpensive as well. Good luck!
Great ideas. I was wondering if you can share any curriculum ideas for tot school. i just started to homeschool my 23months old daughter. so i was thinking its going to be more educational fun play or something. i hope to hear your words. thanks.
