This fall Stages of Imagination presents "Wooden Heart", a light-hearted, original musical play about emotions, friendship, growing and learning for children 3 -11 years old. With song, dance and humor, “Wooden Heart” engages young children and demonstrates that losses, small and large, are part of life and sharing feelings with those we love can help us overcome. This is a unique play that touches the hearts of children and adults with its characters, songs and motions. Performances are offered for school field trips.

Homeschool hiking/biking annual event
May 23, 2010 - May 29, 2010
The homeschool hiking/biking annual event began in May 2005 as a way to gain recognition for homeschooling as well as getting some exercise, group involvement, and introducing homeschoolers and their families to hiking and biking in the great outdoors!! It is an annual event now and will be held each year the last full week in May all across the United States. We are asking for individuals and groups involved in homeschooling to set up events in their areas. Historic Pennypacker Mills, home of Pennsylvania’s twenty-fifth Governor and Civil War soldier, proudly presents this enactment and living history weekend. Over 140 members of this prestigious Pennsylvania family served in the Civil War as well as the Governor’s cousin, Galusha Pennypacker, known as the Boy General. See daily battles, fascinating speakers, and musical performances, visit the Civilian Street where demonstrations of everyday life are offered, walk through military encampments, meet the Chaplain, witness artillery demonstrations and unit inspections and enjoy Lantern Tours in the evening on Saturday. Eckley Miners’ Village Civil War Encampment
Artillery, cavalry, & infantry units will be conducting drilling, firing, and military camp life demonstrations along with a tactical skirmish between federal and confederate forces. Entertainment will include period music & dancing Saturday evening as well as a town ball game of north verses south. Sunday will include a period interdenominational church service in the camp, with a lemonade social and period music following the service. Other activities include sewing workshop, period demonstrators, & lots of good food. There will be a number of sutlers on site who will be selling reproduction military and civilian clothing and personal items from the era, as well as period journeymen who will demonstrate their nineteenth century skills such as chair caning, paper making, old time medicine, quilting, cooking, & more… Check website for event held in August.

Buchanan's Birthplace State Park
This park is nestled in the gap of Tuscarora Mountain. Dedicated in honor of the 15th president of the United States, this narrow, peaceful hollow is the site of James Buchanan's birthplace. A stone pyramid monument surrounded by majestic conifers stands on the site of the original cabin where he was born. Buck Run is a native brook trout stream.

Blue Knob State Park
Blue Knob State Park offers year-round wilderness adventures on 6,128 acres of woodland. The park is in the northwestern tip of Bedford County, west of I-99. Altoona, Johnstown and Bedford are within 25 miles of this scenic park. The elevation of the park can cause air temperatures to be several degrees cooler than the surrounding cities. The annual snowfall averages about 12 feet. One of the unique features of the park is the solitude it provides the visitor. There are many opportunities to enjoy the quiet and refreshing serenity of the mountains and streams.

Big Spring State Park
Tucked in the side of Conococheague Mountain, Big Spring State Park is a quaint picnic and hiking area. A short loop trail leads to a partially completed railroad tunnel with historic interpretation at the trailhead. The park also provides access to the Iron Horse Trail for day and overnight hiking. The park takes its name from nearby Big Spring, whose waters form the scenic Shermans Creek.

Social Home Educators of York
SHEY is an alternative support group in York County, PA for homeschooling families. The primary focus of this group will be for activities, field trips, support, friendship and fun. All homeschool styles, methods, traditional home educators, virtual charter school families, religious or non-religious members are welcome however religion will not be a focus of this group. Tolerance and respect for other people's opinions, choices and beliefs is required here.



Parent Educators of Adams County
PEAC is a secular support group for homeschoolers in Adams County and the surrounding counties and are open to all homeschoolers. Many members regard themselves as Christians, but we do not require members to have particular religous beliefs. PEAC shares info about homeschooling, schedule activities & field trips for the group each month, eg. an astronomy co-op with a field trip to a planetarium. We also encourage individuals to schedule activities geared to personal interests for group members such as writing and inventor clubs, choral or pre-school play groups.
