Whether these fires are a result of natural events, prescribed burns, or human accident, they effect Alaska's ecosystems, wildlife, and economy. This curriculum was designed to help Alaskan students learn about the role of fire in boreal forest and tundra ecosystems. (Y, M, O, T)
Frog and Toad are Friends - This supplemental unit provides Internet resources for K-3 students to learn interesting facts about frogs and toads. They will also focus on friendship, the central theme of Frog and Toad are Friends. Grades K-3. (Y)
Bread and Jam for Frances (Food) - This supplemental unit provides resources for students in first grade to focus on eating healthy food and learning about physical activities, especially jump roping. Students will also learn facts about badgers and other related animals. During these lessons, students will find a recipe for jam. Students will write a poem and draw a picture about one of the topics covered. Students will make an emblem for the United States Amateur Jump Rope Federation and create an original emblem. Students will be given the opportunity to play a healthy choice game on the computer. (Y)
