Go-alongs about Circus

Circus Unit - What part of the circus do students enjoy most? Why is the circus an appealing form of entertainment for so many people? Have students brainstorm a list of acts they have seen at the circus and identify skills that are involved in each. (Y)

How to Devil Stick - Devil stick manipulation is a form of gyroscopic juggling, or equilibristics and is generally considered to be one of the 'circus arts'. The name, "Devil Stick" most likely comes from a confusion of 'diabolo' (to toss across) with 'diablo', or devil. Sometimes called "devil-sticking" other terms often used are: "twirling", "sticking" and "stick juggling". (Y, M, O, T)

JUGGLING - From Teachcircus.com (Y, M, O, T)

Teach Circus.com - This site is dedicated to helping teachers, recreation professionals, and performers give effective instruction in Circus Arts. Circus Arts are a valuable part of many Physical Education and Recreation programs. Because these skills are so novel, challenging, and fun, students of all ages are highly motivated to practice and achieve. Circus Arts are equally good as individual, partner, and group activities. Many students who do not enjoy traditional sports and games often excel at Circus Arts. Circus skills require concentration, patience, timing, tracking skills, gross motor coordination, and fine motor coordination. (Y, M, O, T)
